Beating Em' Good - Tomb Kings

Beating Em' Good - Tomb Kings
So the good news is that Tomb Kings are skeletons, and the Beastmen are especially good at pounding them to dust. However you need to hope that your herd will get there intact, and this is easier said than done - and just like all desert dwelling creatures they've got a nasty sting in their tail.

How They Fight
Tomb Kings are undeniably fragile and are viewed as a difficult army to master, however those who do master it are difficult to beat. The main reason for their frailty is the Hierophant, essentially the army must have a Liche Priest that can pull the army together and they're particularly weak so if they die for any reason then the army begins to crumble. This means the Tomb King army has a fragile centre, which if exploited, can win you the game at a rapid rate of knots. However the Tomb Kings have a couple of strengths, the first is their shooting, which although isn't the most accurate, is massively numerous. This ability to dish out a shed load of shots can whittle your herd down to the point where there combat units can finish you off, when this is coupled with the Screaming Skull Catapults it can cause a real headache.

How To Beat Em' Good
Tomb Kings tend to set up a 'Zulu Dawn' type game when playing against the Beastmen, especially if the Tomb King players has Khalida and a million Bowmen. However no matter what, a Tomb King players is going to take a large degree of shooting and the Screaming Skull Catapults are going to ruin your day. Ensure that you have your main blocks within Inspiring Presence range of your Lord at all times as a well placed shot can route large chunks of your army.

Primarily, the aim of the game is to hit them where it hurts, and due to the Tomb Kings lack of movement, you'll be able to slam your heavy hitters into the Hierophants unit and finish them off. The quicker you can pull this off the better, chariots and knights will be sent out to get you out of the way and preoccupy your units and usually the Tomb King players is using them as a time waster. However if the shooting has whittled you down then you'll struggle against a full blown charge from these units. To beat them, you need to minimize the effect of their shooting, cross your fingers that you don't take too many direct hits from Catapults and hit them directly where it hurts the most.

What To Look Out For
The Lore of Nehekara can ruin your day, certain spells allow units to double their attacks (including shooting attacks), gain Killing Blow and generally reduce the effectiveness of your units. Once this lore is worked alongside the Lore of Light your units will be less effective in combat and be diminished before they even get there, especially if your hordes take a few hits from Lore of Light magic missiles. So ensure you stop spells that will decrease your numbers as this is your key strength against these enemies.

Units wise, keep an eye out for large units of Chariots and Necropolis Knights, these are the only real combat threat the army can throw at you, and with the Lore attribute the Tomb King player can keep these guys in combat for a lot longer than you may expect. The Casket of Souls is a real pain, usually my opponents will use it to get rid of my nuisance units as their low Leadership means they die outright, but if the Tomb King player is lucky, this piece of kit can rip your entire army apart - make sure you don't forget it!

In Short
Hit them as hard as you can, you'll lose a lot on the way but keep heading for the main objective, use your most diminished units to hold up their best units and ensure you hit home with a bang. If you can have the Hierophant in combat by Turn 3 then you'll have them crumbling away into oblivion! Happy days for the Gors in the desert!
