Beastmen Review - Minotaurs

Those Larger Chaps
Minotaurs are the big boys in the Beastmen's arsenal, in theory they should be able to pile into anything and rip it apart. However this isn't usually the case which boils down to their longevity which I'll crack on and start explaining...

Selection
Simply put, these guys are a difficult choice to make in your army, in short they're overly expensive and tend not to last particularly long on the battlefield. However if you want to field a unit of them, then you'll probably want a large bulk of a least 6 so that they can soak up some damage before they eventually get into combat.

Usually if I'm going to take some Minotaurs it's for a very 'Background Themed' game and for a bit of a laugh. They unfortunately just don't cut the mustard against a lot of the harder armies, and tend to get ripped apart by Ogres, which is really depressing. Running them with a Doombull or Gorebull can add a bit of longevity, but before you know if you'll be spending a huge chunk of your points allowance on one undependable unit.

Minotaurs are a lot of fun, so if you're having a fun game take lots - if you want something that isn't going to let you down, don't take these guys.

Key Strengths
The best part about the Minotaurs is their ability to gain attacks when they win a round of close combat, first making them frenzied and then having that added too. However this rule tends not to see the light of day, as most of your opponents will stop the Minotaurs getting into combat in the first place, but to the unbeknownst, these guys will rip them a new one if they're not careful. Minotaurs come across as being able to rip almost any foe apart, but in reality they're much better at dealing with smaller units that can't absorb their impact so you'll want to run them wide to hold a flank which they should be able to do with ease. This is helped by their Impact Hits which can turn a combat in their favour against larger monsters and chariots.

Don't Forget
That due to the Bloodgreed rule they only pursue 6". A pain I know, but Beasts are honest creatures and we don't want to cheat anyone...

Weaknesses
Their primary weakness is their lack of toughness, they just simply don't have enough armour or skin to last them and they'll drop as quickly as Bestigors once they start getting punished, except they're massively expensive versions. Personally I'd rather take another horde of Gors over 6 of these guys, however I do enjoy using them on the odd occasion.

A shame really...
