Beating Em' Good - Ogre Kingdoms

Beating Em' Good - Ogre Kingdoms

Ogre's are one of the greatest armies in the game for having a bash, and playing Beastmen against these guys is an absolute dream as there is a lot of carnage resulting in a massive dead pile. Which is exactly what you want! However what's the best way to go about smashing the fat boys faces in? Well lets begin...

How They Fight
Ogre's are big and scary and hit like a freight train, they've got a lot of attacks each and when that's coupled with their Impact Hits and Stomps they'll turn your Gor block into a smear of blood in an instant. However their key strength is the charge, if you can deny them this powerful part of their game then you're in for a chance, however being Beastmen you're going to have to get to grips with them in combat at some stage. Ogre's also have an incredible magic lore which can negate any de-buffs your Bray Shamans may be putting onto them, they can boost their Strength and Toughness with ease and will undoubtedly use Trollguts to make their entire army Regenerative - and this extended endurance will end your game.

How To Beat Em' Good
You've got to fight them in combat on your terms, and you've got a few things you can use to tip the combats in your favour. Firstly you'll be massively outnumbering them, so use attrition to your advantage, sacrifice you're expendable units such as Razorgors and Ungors and if you need to sacrifice a horde of Gors to the cause then so be it. Eventually you'll out last them as long as you're clever as they have a few tricks you need to look out for.

Due to the nature of the game you'll find it will pivot one combat (more often than not) and due to this you'll need to ensure you're ready for it. The Ogres will be trying to ensure that Trollguts is in full swing keeping their units healthy whilst ensuring that the get the charge, if they can pull this off you'll probably be in trouble. However you need to stop this spell as you need to get rid of them to ensure you win the combat and effectively when the game, if you lose this pivotal combat it'll be over before you even get the chance to realise.

What To Look Out For
Mournfang Cavalry can cause havoc with your army as them alone can rip your units apart especially if they charge in the side, so make sure you get rid of them - you can do this by chucking your Beastlord in brimming to the eyeballs with Savage Beasts of Horrors. The Bestigors also do a good job at chopping these guys up but they'll take a lot of casualties which might be a bit of a poor trade off. The Hell Heart is horrible... If you like to run the Herdstone this item is going to wreck your game, effectively every wizard within a random range has to roll on the Miscast table which can end your magic phase at a time when you absolutely need it, and the Ogre player will know when to pull it off - unfortunately there's nothing you can do about it other than pray it doesn't hit your Shamans.  Gnoblars, these little blighters are a nuisance especially if the unit contains trappers and due to Beastmen having large units an oblivious charge into some little'uns can become a painful mistake especially if they're being used to redirect you.

In Short
As a Beastmen player you need to find ways to outlast your Ogre opponent, ensure you fight them on your terms and pray they don't get a charge on you as they'll literally roll over the top of your units. Ensure you know where the Hell Heart is at all times as it will be used and can end your game in an instant, but to be honest playing the Ogres is a dream as there will be a lot of carnage and a lot of laughs.
