Beastmen Review - Tuskgor Chariots

Baby Chariots

Tuskgor chariots, I believe, are a must in any Beastmen army and because they're a chariot they truly are a pain to deal with as they can cause havoc on the charge and tip an important combat in your favour. Perhaps in a similar way to how the singular Razorgor  can be a general nuisance, these chariots can be annoying and force your opponent to think about where they're moving units due to the threat. So what makes them good?

Selection

Tuskgor Chariots are a 'Core' choice and this allows you to field as many as you bloody well want, perfect if you want to have an array of 'point and click' models which charge off into the distance and hit something hard. Normally I field 2 however I'd like to have a few more in the future but I can't bring myself around to converting them, however when selecting Tuskgor Chariots you'll need to be thinking about keeping points for your 'Special' choices as you're still going to need a large chunk of Core for Gors. So how many you field is upto you, and in the end they're something for your opponent to fire at whilst your Gor and Bestigor hordes march up the table.

Key Strengths

Tuskgor Chariots are not particularly mobile at the beginning of the game, however they have the 'Swiftstride' rule when they get around to charging. This means they have a large range of charge possibilities which can put your opponent off getting close too them, especially when they're next too a unit of Gors as a combination charge can sometimes break the hardest of enemies. Tuskgor Chariots don't stand up to a lot of hitting, however they are a delivery unit - if they can deliver their impact hit payload then they've done their job.  However they can hold their own in combat, and with Primal Fury they can sometimes get lucky and cause a bit of carnage in situations that they probably should've folded over and died. Their key strength is their ability to be annoying, they stop your opponent from getting too close to your Gor hordes and make them think twice about a fail charge or something similar.

Don't Forget

You're Bestigor hanging off the back! He's got a bloody Great Weapon, and I know he's usually striking last and dies, but if it's still there at the end of the combat make sure you pop his attack on your enemy. With Primal Fury at work he's very unlikely 'not' to kill something so DON'T FORGET HIM!

Weaknesses

They're not particularly tough and it doesn't take long for them to die, usually if you're opponents got Cannons or Bolt Throwers they'll be throwing them at it. As usually you'll have nothing better for them to shoot at unfortunately, but in these circumstances you've got to take the blows and hope they leave your Gors alone.

8th Edition

I'd like to see a slight points decrease, but more of the same GW!

Painting

I've personally not painted the 'Official' finecast model, however I managed to convert 2 using the chassis from the Orc Boar Chariot kit, 2 Warhounds and 2 Gors. I'll be posting images of my models soon, but it was a bit of a pain to paint mainly due to the conversion aspect of the model. However if a new plastic kit was to be produced I would definitely pick up 3 or 4 to keep them looking standardized.
